Early Life

Deepika Padukone was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 5 January 1986 to Konkani-speaking parents. Prakash Padukone, her father, is a former professional badminton player, Ujjala, her mother is a travel agent, and Anisha, her younger sister, is a golfer. She did her schooling at Bangalore’s Sophia High School and went to Mount Carmel College to complete her pre-university education.

However, during an interview, she said that in her early year, the focus of her life was badminton, and she was socially awkward as a child, not having many friends. She also worked as a child model in addition to a sporting career. But later on, she decided to become a fashion model when she was in tenth grade. At the age of 21, Padukone shifted to her aunt’s home in Mumbai. That year itself, she started gaining popularity when featured in the music video for Himesh Reshammiya’s song “Naam Hai Tera.”

Career

Deepika Padukone’s first movie was not in Bollywood- it was a Kannada movie, Aishwarya, which was released back in 2006. The film proved to be a major commercial success and was noticed by the famous movie producer, Farah Khan. She cast in her movie Om Shanti Om and guess what! It was a success. With global revenue of ₹1.49 billion (US$22 million), the film emerged as the highest-grossing film of the year. Padukone was awarded the Best Female Debut Award at the annual Filmfare Awards ceremony.

Her career somewhere around 2010 wasn’t her best- she released movies such as Lafangey Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Karthik calling Karthik, Parindey, and some others, but they were not hits in Bollywood. But, things finally took a turn for good when she signed up for the movie Cocktail in 2012. She was cast in movies such as Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Chennai Express, all of which turned out to be big blockbusters in Bollywood.
